Basic Menu Settings (13 MB)

You use the menu to set up many of the preferences for how you use your camera. This is done by activating the menu which will appear in the LCD screen. With the menu active, you can select setting categories and execute your choice by using the dial on the back of the camera.

Think of the camera as a computer (not a far-fetched idea). Menus are just like menus used with any other type of software and hardware. The dial on the back of the camera is a simplified mouse. Turning the dial is like dragging the mouse on a desktop. Pushing in on the dial is like clicking on a computer's mouse.

If you are unsure about menu settings, compare your camera's settings with the settings shown in the video above. These are our recommended base settings for your work in the School of Journalism. If your camera's settings differ from the settings shown here, scroll through the menus and submenus until you find the correct setting and execute it
